We ask the Unit Coordinator at Curtin University to extend the deadline for the case study assessment in Advanced Mine Planning (MINE6037) by at least a week.
As the Education Vice President for the Guild at Curtin University, Kalgoorlie, I have been approached by numerous students who are concerned about the heavy weight of this assessment. The case study carries 60% of the unit grade, so its outcome has a major effect on students’ academic progress.
The time currently allowed is not enough for students to properly work through the complex requirements of the unit. Advanced Mine Planning asks students to digest, process, and apply challenging concepts, and that takes time. Many students feel overwhelmed by the pressure of trying to complete such an important task within such a tight timeline.
We all understand the value of meeting deadlines and managing time well. But in this case, the current schedule risks measuring speed more than understanding. An extension would give students a fairer chance to show what they know and what they can do.
A modest extension of at least a week would reduce unnecessary stress and help students produce work that better reflects their effort and learning. It would also support Curtin University’s commitment to academic excellence and student welfare.
We therefore ask that this deadline be extended. Please support this petition and help ensure that students in Advanced Mine Planning (MINE6037) are given a fair opportunity to succeed and to demonstrate their understanding of the course content.
I have a number of assignments within same deadline and looking at the depth of the deliverables for the Advanced Mine Planning assessment, I believe an extension will be of great support in delivering.
