Retain the traditional WCC men’s club championship format
We, the undersigned members of Warragul Country Club, support retaining the traditional format of the Men’s Club Championship.
The current format consists of two qualifying rounds of stroke play, followed by the top eight players progressing to match play to determine the Men’s Club Champion.
We believe this format should remain for the following reasons:
● It provides a true test of championship golf, combining both stroke play and match play.
● It ensures the leading players from the qualifying rounds progress to compete head-to-head for the Club Championship.
● The match play component creates an exciting spectacle for fellow members and spectators and provides an opportunity for the wider club to follow the Championship through to its conclusion.
● It recognises and preserves the tradition and history of the Men’s Club Championship at Warragul.
● While the format has been changed on occasions in the past, it has subsequently returned to a match play finish.
The Club Championship is one of the most significant events on the WCC golfing calendar, and we believe its format should reflect both the history of the event and provide the best possible competition for determining our Club Champion.
We therefore ask Warragul Country Club to retain the existing Men’s Club Championship format of two rounds of stroke play qualifying, followed by a top-eight match play series to determine the Men’s Club Champion.

As the club is getting bigger and more commercial it is more important than ever to keep some tradition and keep what is the best day of the year (match play final)

Because it unique to the Warragul golf club as no other west Gippsland clubs do it this way. Plus I’ll beat Lenny again through the stoke section again😉
