We call on the RSCCD board of trustees to reverse its decision not to renew the contract for Dr. Maria Dela Cruz and to invest in the leaders who have built trust through a proven track record, strong work ethic, and steady service to the community. This decision has raised serious concern because leadership should be judged carefully, fairly, and with real evidence, not by quick judgments or closed-door assumptions.
We are all affected when a respected manager is pushed aside! Further turnover will continue to weaken morale, disrupt progress, and make it harder to keep good people serving where they are needed most.
We believe in accountability, but we also believe in fairness. Before making a decision that affects the future of RSCCD, the board should pause and listen to the people who have seen this leadership at work. Dr. Maria Dela Cruz should not be dismissed without the board hearing why we have signed this petition.
Invest in leaders, not turnover. We ask the RSCCD board to reconsider this decision, share the evidence, and choose stability, transparency, and respect for proven service.
Maria has been a highly effective, competent, and equity centered leader for the SAC Counseling department for a decade. She has also contributed significantly to SAC’s efforts in the areas of Guided Pathways, Student Equity, Affinity Programs and Centers, and in creating a collaborative and welcoming culture amongst faculty, classified professionals, and administration in the Counseling Division. Her performance does not warrant the non-renewal of her contract.
