To OpenAI and its leadership, research teams, and scientific collaborators,
we respectfully call upon OpenAI to immediately release any results, proofs, or significant progress it has achieved concerning the mathematical existence of Yang–Mills theory, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), and a possible completion of the Standard Model of particle physics.
These questions lie at the heart of our understanding of nature. The mathematical existence of Yang–Mills quantum field theory in four-dimensional spacetime, including the problem of establishing a mass gap, remains one of the great open challenges in mathematical physics and is recognized by the Clay Mathematics Institute as a Millennium Prize Problem. Quantum chromodynamics describes the strong interaction, while the Standard Model provides our most successful framework for understanding fundamental particles and three of the four known fundamental interactions.
As artificial intelligence systems become increasingly capable of assisting with advanced mathematics and scientific research, any genuine breakthroughs achieved with their help could be of extraordinary importance to science and humanity.
The fundamental laws of nature are a subject of interest to all humanity. Progress in understanding them should, wherever possible, be supported by openness, independent scrutiny, and international scientific collaboration.
Treating LLMs as oracles and elevating near-retirement physicists to priesthood is not the way to go.
