We need affordable day care for first responders and front line workers that fits their work schedules and gives them peace of mind during bad weather and stay-in-place situations.

Every day, first responders and front line workers show up when the rest of us need help most. They answer emergency calls, keep essential services running, and take on long, unpredictable hours so our communities can stay safe. But many of them are also parents, and finding child care that is affordable, dependable, and open when their work demands it is a real struggle. When schools close, weather turns bad, or a stay-in-place is ordered, that challenge gets even harder.

This is not a small problem. If child care does not match their schedules, or if families cannot trust that their children will be safe and cared for, it adds stress at the very moment these workers need to focus on their jobs. No one should have to choose between caring for their children and being there when an emergency comes in.

We ask for day care options that work for the people who keep our communities going. That means care that is affordable, dependable, and flexible enough to fit shift work, emergency call times, and bad-weather closures. It also means giving families confidence that their children are safe when the workday runs longer than planned or when conditions make travel difficult.

Our first responders and front line workers deserve that support. They are there for us in urgent moments, and we should be there for them by making child care work for real life.
