The City of Toronto needs to address the child care shortage. The wait lists are growing and as residents of ward 12-St.Paul's, we feel the City needs to respond by enabling parents to have access to local, community based daycare.
Child care located within neighbourhoods are a viable and desirable solution to the shortage we are facing. Child care in neighbourhoods make our communities vibrant, integrated, and interdependent, offering parents a much needed service close to home. We implore the City of Toronto staff to take serious care in the development of local and safe environments for our children to grow in and start addressing this shortage by taking action now.

I have requested a formal meeting with the ward office to present our list of signatures and discuss potential zoning changes for community child care sites. My focus is currently on drafting a briefing note that outlines the specific gaps in local availability. I expect to receive a response regarding a meeting time by the end of the week.

The scale of this response has reached the threshold where city council members are now acknowledging the petition. I am currently finalizing a formal briefing document to present at the next planning committee session.

NEED MORE OPTIONS FOR FAMILIES. TOUGH TO GET TO WORK ON TIME WHEN YOU HAVE TO DRIVE ACROSS THE CITY FOR DROP OFF

The waitlists in this ward are absolutely insane. We have been waiting over a year for a spot close to home.
