LAST week’s revelations about childcare have the alarm bells ringing within families at every corner of Ireland. In 2013 no family should be forced to put their child/children into childcare that isn't first class, affordable and at a minimum SAFE. The Department of Social Protection has continuously shown itself ill-informed and ill-equipped to meet the REAL needs of low income families wanting and needing to stay/reengage in the labour market. For example Minister Joan Burton promised on the 18th April 2012 that she would not cut One Parent Family Payments when children reached seven as‘…she believes stopping lone parent payments when the youngest child is seven may be too young, unless there was adequate childcare.’(RTE 2012). Yet she intends to do just that THIS week even after such shocking revelations. This is a chance for ALL families to show the Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Francis Fitzgerald that us parents won’t take ANY less than the best in the interest of the well being of our kids while we return to the workforce. And we won’t see HUGE profits in the pockets of people who are providing the so called childcare revealed to us last week. Sign this petition asking for FIRST CLASS AFFORDABLE CHILDCARE FOR ALL FAMILIES. There is no you or us or them….just ALL OUR CHILDREN......EQUAL.

The feedback I have received from families across the country highlights the urgent need for a fundamental shift in our childcare policy. I am currently drafting a formal document for both Ministers to ensure they cannot ignore the reality of these circumstances.

The momentum behind this initiative continues to grow as more families join our call for accountability. This progress reinforces the urgency of our demands regarding the safety and affordability of childcare. It is clear that the current situation remains unacceptable to parents throughout the country.

Keeping the kids safe should be priority number one. Its not just about money its about trust and right now that trust is gone.

The costs are absolutely crazy. I have two kids and my entire wages just about covers the creche bill. Something has to change soon.

JOAN BURTON NEEDS TO WAKE UP. How are we supposed to work when the care isn't safe or affordable?? Total joke.

My creche is grand but i know so many who are struggling with bad quality care. No child should be in an unsafe place while parents are at work.

Finally someone said it. The childcare system here is broken and we are paying the price for it every single month.
