Petition to continue the Chinese Calligraphy Class
Dear Confucius Institute, NTU
We, the students of the Chinese Calligraphy class, would like to respectfully appeal for the continuation of our Chinese Calligraphy programme.
Over the years of our learning journey, we have developed not only our calligraphy skills, but also a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture, tradition and the beauty of this ancient art form. The class has become a meaningful and enjoyable part of our lives, giving us an opportunity to learn, practise and improve together.
For many of us, Chinese calligraphy is more than simply learning how to write beautifully. It teaches us patience, concentration, discipline and mindfulness. Each lesson allows us to slow down, focus and appreciate the cultural heritage behind every stroke.
We are very grateful to the Confucius Institute and our teacher for providing us with this valuable opportunity to learn. We sincerely hope that the programme can continue so that we can further develop our skills and continue this meaningful learning journey together.
We would therefore like to kindly request the Confucius Institute,NTU to consider continuing the Chinese Calligraphy class for the existing students.
We believe there are many students who are eager to continue learning, practising and improving. Chinese calligraphy is a precious part of our cultural heritage, and we hope that we can continue to learn and preserve this beautiful art together.
We sincerely hope you will consider our request and give us the opportunity to continue our Chinese Calligraphy journey at the Confucius Institute.

我诚恳希望书法课程能够继续保留，让有兴趣的同学可以持续学习和进步。书法是中华传统文化的重要传承。学习书法让我有机会静下心来，培养专注力和陶冶性情。多年来我和同学已经投入了时间和心力学习书法，并逐渐建立了兴趣和基础。如果课程能够继续，我们不仅可以进一步提升书写技巧，也能够在老师的指导下不断学习、交流和进步。我相信，保留书法课程不仅满足同学个人的学习兴趣，也有助于传承传统文化。因此，我恳请孔院考虑同学的意愿，继续提供书法课程，让我们能够把这份对书法的热爱和坚持延续下去。
学习书法已经是我生活的一部分，自2020年退休以来，书法已是我每天的主要动力！尤其是在孔院上课的这段日子，不仅我的书写能力提升了，我也交到一群志同道合的朋友，大家一起学习、一起成长。突然接到孔院要结束书法课程，不夸张的说，真的是晴天霹雳！我明白孔院要提升课程质量的新目标，我希望孔院不要放弃我们，让我们和孔院一起提升！
Writing Teacher Chew is a very kind, patient, and encouraging teacher. I truly appreciate her guidance and patience throughout the Chinese Calligraphy class. Most importantly, I have gained valuable Chinese Calligraphy skills and a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and traditional values. This learning journey has been very meaningful to me, relief stress, and I hope to continue learning and improving under Teacher Chew’s guidance. 学毛笔字可以减少压力，陶冶情操。帮我们留住毛笔字课程
Without attending Tuesday calligraphy classes, I started to feel lost… I need the class as it had been my routine my life since before COVID till today!
書法本身就具有豐富的歷史、文化、藝術、語言及教育研究價值，並不只是一般的興趣活動。保留書法課程與孔子學院轉型為研究機構兩者並不衝突，反而可以相輔相成，讓書法成為相關文化與教育研究的重要實踐和延伸。 衷心希望南洋理工大學/孔子学院能重新考慮，讓這項具有文化價值的課程得以延續，讓更多人有機會接觸、學習和傳承中文書法。
Chinese calligraphy is a vital means of preserving our Chinese heritage. Reading & writing deepen cultural understanding, while calligraphy cultivates inner calm & character. The programme advances the CI’s language & cultural mission, & its sustained student participation proves its value. As the Institute becomes a research institution, ending this established programme would be regrettable. We hope it will continue growing & inspire more students to learn & carry forward Chinese culture.
Learning chinese calligraphy is really good for mind and body. “The class has been very grounding and enlightening for me. The learning experience here has far surpassed the other calligraphy classes I have attended. One of the main reason is how conducive the classroom set up is for the lesson. I truly hope we can continue to practise calligraphy here.”

Chinese calligraphy is the core of Confucius teachings. I sincerely hope that NTU and Shandong University can retain this class to uphold the foundation of Confucius teachings. Thank you.
