We are asking Antioch families, educators, and community members to show support for City Academy, a new free public charter school proposed for Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade, opening Fall 2026 in Antioch — with plans to extend the model to Pittsburg in the years that follow.
Antioch's children deserve a strong start. City Academy is designed to close persistent achievement gaps in early literacy and math with:
- Structured literacy instruction aligned to the Science of Reading (Heggerty, Fundations, Wit & Wisdom)
- Conceptual math through Eureka Math, with daily fluency practice
- Multilingual, asset-based instruction that treats Spanish and other home languages as strengths, not barriers
- Small class sizes, embedded social-emotional learning, and a whole-child approach to discipline and support
- A genuine partnership with families — multilingual communication, family literacy nights, and an elected Family Advisory Committee
City Academy builds on an existing, trusted early-learning foundation, giving this school a head start most new charters don't have: established HR systems, safety protocols, and a leadership team that has already done this work. Antioch is the first stop — once the model is proven here, the same approach will extend to Pittsburg, creating a connected network of high-quality elementary options across East Contra Costa County.
Under California Education Code §47605(a)(1), our charter petition must be supported by signatures from at least 50% of parents/guardians who are meaningfully interested in enrolling their child, OR 50% of teachers meaningfully interested in teaching here.
By signing this petition, you are indicating that you — as a parent or guardian — are meaningfully interested in having your child attend City Academy, OR — as a teacher — are meaningfully interested in teaching at City Academy. Your signature does not enroll your child or commit you to employment; it simply tells the Antioch Unified School District Board of Education that there is real community demand for this school.
We need at least 60 signatures to move forward — please add your name and share with other Antioch families.
I am from Antioch, CA and I would love for parents to feel confident that their children are receiving a high-quality, culturally relevant education supported by the community. I am signing this petition in support of stronger local schools and student success.
