Cardinal Newman College Students would like our college to stop using Generative AI in relation to our studies.

What we would like :
- Generative AI to stop being used on socials- photoshop exists for a reason, the college pays for it, we also don't want students being put into AI as the AI stores these images and uses them to create others meaning that these students likenesses can be, and often are used to make disgusting images which are often used for blackmail against students
- Generative AI to stop being used in posters around college, we have a graphic design course and marketing team
- Generative AI to stop being used to create college resources as it results in many of us having to redo work due to the AI getting the work wrong, causing us to fail, giving the college a bad impression
- Generative AI use to stop being forced on us in our subjects, both through course materials and being forced to generate prompts in lesson.

Why we want this :
- Generative AI uses makes people stupid. Regular use of AI reduces peoples critical thinking skills, stopping them from analysing the information they have to make a factually informed decision, making people easier to control and influence;  a common goal of fascists, an ideal which is on the rise currently, making this even scarier
- Generative AI makes things up. it has been proven time and time again that AI has made up quotes and sources in essays which it has written
- Generative AI has harmful, extremist right wing views built in, which it perpetuates in all of its answers even if subtly. Generative AI spreads racism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia and misogyny to name a few, which is absolutely disgusting and goes against the colleges policy of 'Newman against hate'
- Generative AI requires human input at every stage of its preparation and verification. Generative AI companies get this through slave labour in countries where labour laws are less strictly enforced and wages are not regulated. These people work for hours a day on extremely little pay (41 cents a day in one case in Madagascar) in awful conditions where they are forced to see the most horrific things to filter for the AI. This is extremely immoral and we cannot support this. 
- Generative AI collects, steals and sells huge amounts of data every day which is both illegal and can be used for horrific things to target vulnerable people
- Generative AI is bad for the planet. In order to run an AI data centre litres of clean water is required to keep the data centre cool. Clean water which we are running out of. Many people still don't have access to clean water and so much is wasted on AI data centres when its so vitally needed elsewhere. This water is then polluted and made unsafe for human consumption. Rain water is now unsafe to drink.
