TO THE 173-175 RIVERSIDE BOARD
We applaud your efforts to set a new tone in communications with shareholders (The 173-175 Dispatch) and agree with your assessment, “We recognize that aspects of the Lobby design, functionality, and furnishings remain incomplete, and some of the furnishings are undesirable.”
However, we are dismayed by your decision to auction “old” lobby furniture. We do not want to live with gaudy and unsuitable “new” furniture while the board independently hires a new designer and purchases another round of furniture. Please retain our “old” lobby furniture, for potential restoration and re-use.
We therefore ask:
1. Slow down. Do not auction “old” lobby furniture now.
2. Resident groups have mobilized to offer alternative furniture plans to the board and fellow shareholders by mid-November, Kindly refrain from hiring additional outside consultants until such proposals can be considered by shareholders and the board.

A great deal of time and money has already been spent on the lobby. I think it's time to pause further spending on outside designers, take the time to hear everyone out, and see what we can come up with collectively before spending more.
Just put back the old furniture. It was inoffensive and sturdy. The new furniture looks cheap and insubstantial. And it is too low for anyone with a mobility issue. Also, I see at least one realtor who sells in our building and on the west side has signed this petition. That should mean something...
Our lobby used to be classy, elegant, serene and a respite to walk into. Know even guests who visit comment how disjointed, cluttered and cheap it appears, just like a furniture show room.. such a waste of money, such a shame.
We need to be consulted - before the decisions are final not after!
The co-op board must become more inclusive in its decision making, especially for something that impacts all building residents.
Why hire additional consultants? In our considerable experience with consultants, we have not been impressed.
Walking into the lobby is a dispiriting —and embarrassing — experience.

Slow down and have additional input sessions. Create guidelines, goals, and a budget before hiring anyone. From using the old to starting from scratch. The value you get from a resource is directly related to the preparation you put in to define the problem and parameters for a solution.
