Hello Neighbors -

As you most of you likely know my carport was destroyed during the derecho storm on May 3rd when a neighbor's tree fell on the carport, lifting it off of its foundation and bending the support beams to the point of instability. In trying to rebuild, I have learned that I need to file a zoning variance appeal unless I rebuild exactly as it was built in 1969. As you probably know the homes on Peach Blossom Square were built prior to the zoning laws so none of them meet the current zoning requirements and a variance is needed to make any changes. Five of the 10 homes of Peach Blossom Square have converted the 1969 carports to garages.

My desire is to add a garage door and side walls to the carport so that it is an enclosed garage. The proposed garage would be of the same foot print and dimensions as the pre-existing carport structure, but would have a garage door and side walls. The design is to restore my property from the storm damage and to keep consistent with the other 5 garages already on Peach Blossom. The garage will be most similar to the garage at 10 Peach Blossom Square. Please find the Site Plan and Elevation as separate attachments to this email.

In submitting my zoning appeal to the Department of Codes and Building Safety, I would like to indicate in advance to the zoning board and our council woman that my neighbors would support the proposed zoning variance. Separately, as required as part of the petition I will send a formal letter of my intention to seek a zoning variance to each of the homes within 1000 feet of my home.
