Seeing this many people rally behind a safer crossing at the Avenues puts a lump in my throat because I know exactly how dangerous that junction feels every single morning. We have clearly hit a point where the council cannot ignore our demand for a safer walk to the park.

The volume of people, not only children, crossing this section of road at a busy crossroads really warrants a safer place to cross .The excitement of coming and going to school,an ice cream van,and the entrance to the park all distract people; making them vulnerable when crossing the road.
I regularly cycle or drive along this very section of Avenues Road after dropping my child to the Junior school. I have been confused as a cyclist and driver and had several instances where (while I am going slowly) children have stepped out. A Zebra crossing would make clear to all that traffic needs to stop at this point and allow children to cross safely.
I see this proposed zebra crossing not as a consideration but, as a necessity. There are three schools within 2 minutes walk and a park/play area on the other side of the road. At the end of school there is so much pedestrian and road traffic it inevitably leads to confusion and therefor risk to children. City Council seem to be digging up half of Norwich at the moment, surely this job should be part of thier plans...
I witnessed a "near miss" at this crossing approx 1 week ago. A car approaching the crossing stopped at the crossing, and 2 unaccompanied children (approx age 9 - 10) stepped into the road to cross. They did not check for vehicles coming from the other direction. A cyclist was approaching at speed from that direction, and the children stepped straight into it's path. The cyclist very nearly collided with the children, missing them only by a few centimetres!
This zebra crossing would significantly support our school's commitment to children and families walking to school. Wendy Cleary Chair of Governors Avenue Junior School
I think this would be an excellent idea for park access and school run
I have been visiting Heigham Park since 2010 and agree a crossing is needed.

I agree with the crossing at that junction but NOT with closing the avenues at the tree island between Rec road and College road, as that will cause those two roads and Portersfield Road and Jessop Road to become a congested rat run and increase crossing difficulties on these four road for children and families.
