Access to clean drinking water and housing is a basic human right that should be bestowed upon all members of the human race. However, year 2012 as a group has been denied of shelter and a hot water supply without any warning or notice. This is the annihilation of our dreams and aspirations for the year, crushed in less than a week. This forcible seizure of our newly bestowed kitchen area is a violation of a grand majority of the Student Rights and Responsibilities, found on page 14 in our Diary, which the staff of the school should also uphold and ensure that the members of the student body are happy. They are violated as followed: 1. "To be treated with respect and dignity by everyone." - The term ‘everyone’ includes staff members, not just students. The student body of year 11 is humiliated by this situation. 2. "To work in a positive learning environment." - The abrupt abolition of this rite of passage - of VCE students being blessed with their own room in which they can relax and release the stress of entering their penultimate year of schooling, has severely scarred every member of the class of 2012. 3. "To enjoy School activities and functions free of inappropriate behaviour" – Not having a common room is a severe disadvantage and a harsh blow on our pride as leaders of the school, and as VCE students. Our year level has upheld the integrity that is expected of us. We expect the other party to do the same. 4. "To feel proud to belong to Camberwell Girls' Grammar School." – As said, our faith in our school system is decreasing as this situation progresses. 5. "To participate fully in the life of the school" - If the previous year 11 get a common room, we should have the same privileges, or at least a privilege equal to the access of shelter and electrical equipment. 6. "To have property and facilities respected" – We respected the ‘kitchen area’, all we ask is for a basic, necessity in braving the tough waters of VCE. This 'kitchen area' was a major milestone in ensuring the community of our year level. An overwhelming majority, if not everybody in year 2012, wishes to have access to hot water and electrical appliances (those will be supplied by the people in our year level). We do not wish for new equipment or technologies, we simply want the right to have access to hot water and a place to stay during lunch and recess. Our proposal cannot become any simpler than this. Why knock the room down so hastily, when the walls of the new building complex have not even be laid down yet? At least let us keep the room for the winter. Having the same area back is not necessary, but ideal. We simply ask for warm food and beverages to warm our sensitive stomachs in this bitter and cold winter. Sincerely, The Undersigned.
