they just confirmed the development is being scaled back to fit the neighborhood. i am so happy we managed to protect our streets and honestly just feel overwhelmed by all the support. keep an eye on the site plans for the next meeting but for now we really did it.

Now is the time to have your voice heard Barrhaven! This petition is about the six story retirement residence proposal for Maravista Drive and Chesapeake Crescent.
The vacant lot was last zoned for a five story retirement residence in 2008, eleven years ago before many of the surrounding town-homes existed and before any of us could voice our opinions. The new proposal is for a six story retirement residence with 143 rooms, 42 underground parking spaces (for residents) and only nine (9) exterior parking spaces which will only worsen our existing traffic problems as well as street parking. The loading docks are to be located on Chesapeake Crescent which will pose a safety concern for the many young families living there when the delivery trucks make their frequent visits.
This petition is not against having a retirement residence in the area, it's to try and amend the proposal to match the community esthetics. The local businesses (Kennevale Drive and Strandherd Drive) are currently a four story maximum which is much more proportionate to the home heights in that area. By having a smaller retirement residence, in height and scale, the unit would be better suited for our community. There are several wonderful retirement residences which are two or three stories in height nestled in our community like "The Court at Barrhaven" and "Revera Barrhaven" that compliment the surrounding infrastructure. Something like this would be a better fit to our community.

This proposed structure is an eyesore in the middle of a residential area and will block light from the homes on Chesapeake Crescent. A smaller, less intrusive structure would fit into the neighbourhood much better
Since I have young children and a teenager, I am not happy about the increase in traffic this residence will mean for our neighbourhood. In the four years I've resided here, traffic has gotten insane and it will be even worse with this new complex. At the very least, I would hope that the complex would be in keeping with the other two nearby retirement residences.
I disagree with a special permission being granted to a contractor for such a high building. The neighbouring streets are already difficult at times and adding exterior parking would make the situation worse.
Six (6) stories would be totally out of proportion for the neighbourhood. Even the newest commercial establishments are no where near that. Not to mention being above the eleven year old zoning proposal. Let's have something that fits with the neighbourhood!
I am concerned at the safety of my young children because of the loading area right in front of my house at Chesapeake Crescent. Also, there is no information where the garbage disposal will be located, biomedical waste is a big issue as well for the community.
This Pacific neighborhood will be disturbed thanks to this building. 3 storey max please. They need to consider the factors considered by the adjacent homeowners when they purchased their houses. The Sunlight is a key factor for sure. Lack of parking is a problem.
6 storey seems way too high considering the surrounding buildings and existing road infrastructures.

Too tall. Does not fit in with the neighbourhood. Why the entrance and loading docks have been positioned to face existing residences shows little respect for the existing community. Agree with others who have highlighted the increased traffic issues.
