I wrote a letter to the reporter who featured the issue with WYJZ because I was \'HOT\' because the smooth jazz format was canceled.
Emmis sold the guts of RadioNow WNOU to rival Radio One. Seeing dollar signs, Radio One decided to kill the smooth jazz station WYJZ and stick a revived WNOU in its place. Both Emmis and Radio One made all these changes for money. The broadcasters are betting the revamped stations will help them pull in more ad dollars. This is because the new technologies are fragmenting the market and making advertisers skeptical of radio. It seems the listeners are turning on Web radio stations, using IPod, XM or Sirus. which also means broadcasters have to make decisions about their programming that we may not like. It is all money-driven.
Will another Indianapolis radio station change their format and incorporate smooth jazz to welcome displaced fans like myself, who knows I know there are enough of us out there to carry some clout somewhere.
I signed the petition below. Your email address will not be shown and will be released to Radio One with this Petition. Let them know we are out there. WYJZ was my source to find out what CD\'s were coming out and to hear a sample.
AS MOST OF YOU WHO LOVE JAZZ MAY ALREADY KNOW BY KNOW THAT RADIO ONE STATION NO LONGER PLAY SMOOTH JAZZ ON IT\'S 100.9 F.M STATION. THEY ARE NOW PLAYING HIPPITY HOPPITY DU WAP STUFF THAT YOU CAN LISTEN TO ON ANY OF THE OTHER STATIONS OF YOUR JOICE. I AM A TRUE FAN OF THE JAZZ STATION WYJZ 100.9 AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE OR RATHER HEAR IT BACK ON THE AIR ASAP. IF YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY, SIGN THE PETITION TO GET SOME GOOD MUSIC BACK ON THE AIR AND PASS IT ALONG TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT ARE JAZZ FREAKS.
Sign below, the additional information is not required but is asked to show Radio One the demographic they are IGNORING by showcasing the Same-Ole Same-Ole.
Seeing this kind of movement confirms that my frustration is shared by so many of you who lost our station. The road ahead remains long and difficult because these corporations prioritize profit over our music but this support keeps me pushing forward.

I grew up listening to this station. I remember the jingle for it too. Sad that they change it.

I grew up listening to this station with my dad and they changed it to just another pop station. Super disappointing.

I know that this is late but I stopped listening to local radio because of the loss of WYJZ. If anyone in power is reading this, please bring WYJZ back!

Please bring some smooth jazz back to Indy. There is definitely a market here for it. Saw Boney James/Stanley Jordan last Saturday night at the Murat and was impressed with the outcome of fans that showed up. Bring back the jazz.

Please bring back Smooth Jazz 100.9. I listened to this everyday. You can listen to the music you replaced Smooth Jazz with on any of the other channels.
