We, the (undersigned) faculty of Cornell University, affirm the critical importance of the library system to all aspects of Cornell’s mission. The strength of the library system is equally important for all Cornell colleges, regardless of whether we and our students rely primarily on print or on digital materials. The library system will only become more important in years to come as the repository of more traditional forms of knowledge and as the institution for developing new forms of knowledge and scholarship in the 21st century. The hiring and long-term retention of new faculty in the coming years will depend crucially on making provisions for continued excellence of library resources to support our work.
We call on the central administration, college deans, and faculty to work together to meet the first objective of the Cornell University Library Strategic Plan (2011-2015), to "Return the Library to its position among the top ten academic institutions in the Association of Research Libraries in terms of collection support".

I am honestly overwhelmed by the number of people who have added their names to this petition. If we can reach the two hundred and fifty mark this week it will show the administration just how united we truly are on this issue. This momentum is entirely yours and I am just humbled to be part of the group.

I am honestly overwhelmed to see that one hundred colleagues have added their names to this. This started as a quiet concern of my own and seeing so many of you feel the same way is truly humbling.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of my colleagues have already added their names to this effort. Seeing our department lists grow proves that this issue truly belongs to all of us. If you have been meaning to mention this to a peer in your office, now is the perfect time to reach out so we can cross that hundred signature mark together.

We need better funding for our collections. My students are constantly struggling to find the archives they need for their thesis work.

Totally agree. Cant attract the best faculty if we dont have the resources to back them up!

The library budget cuts have been ridiculous lately. You cant do serious research without the proper materials. Please fix this.
