Cape Town Woodstock Rates and Taxes abused instead of used

Our current rates are not being used properly, the roads are filthy and unkempt, the parks are a disaster

stop this rates increase.

Demanding better public service for the rates we pay especially in the cleaning and safety/policing department

Due to gentrification our rates keeps increasing. The only way to get rid of the poor coloureds in the area & replace them with whites.

CoCT no longer cleans lanes, or maintains road marking in University Estate. Street names are often non-existent. We pay high rates but CoCT does not supply services in line with our high rates.

I object to the rate increase

How is it possible my rates can go up 120%. How does this get calculated. Dont live in Woodstock. I have 3 pensioners as neighbors and assuming their rates is also shot up 120%. How they going to afford this. If i cant afford this, what are they going to do.

I fully support this petition. The rate increase is ridiculous! Why should my rates be so much higher because i purchased my house last year at very inflated prices - all the other houses in the area have increased marginally. My rates are 70% higher compared to the other houses in the area that are the same size. It is absurd!

I strongly object to the valuation of domestic properties in Woodstock area. It is not reasonable or fair!

Not from Woodstock ,but would like to sign. I stay in Brooklyn and with the new evaluation my property increased by R500000 which is up by 70%

My home has increased to a not market related value. We cannot even sell our house for what it has been valued for, where does COCT thumb suck these figures from???

Would like clarity on how the discrepancy of rates between the various poperties in Woodstock has been determined

My home valuation has increased by an unreasonable amount, and my rates are not used for the services which the City should be providing. This in addition to new levies for electricity and water. The City has been proven to be making massive profit from their rates bills, yet we don’t see the benefit of this. Please address the situation urgently.

240% increase in tax is not human

Rates are being increased higher than properties can actually be sold for.

It is absurd that our rates have gone up by such a large percentage. Unrealistic.

We have complained numerous times to council about rubbish and dumping and weeds in the streets, potholes, untarred roads. Nothing gets done. We have no parks in our area but the parks around Woodstock are too dirty to use, often staying unkept for months before council even cuts the grass. If you calculate the rates we pay and compare the amount of properties on the street (roughly 80 houses per street) versus an average street in Constantia (15-20) then we are paying the city more than Constantia for street upkeep and maintenance?! Where is this money going??

Can’t remember when last my street was swept, my pavement was maintained or the vegetation cared for. Often I have to charm hunsn waste from next to my house because the vagrants have nowhere proper to ablute. The whole neggiurhoid is filthy and full of litter. Where are these and other services we pay rates for?! Why should they be increased if the basics are already being neglected? Ridiculous.
