ISCOTT

1 South Van Ness Avenue, 7th Floor, Room 7080

San Francisco, CA 94103

Dear ISCOTT Committee Members,

As a stakeholder in the Union Square area, I respectfully request ISCOTT approve the USBID’s application to close Maiden Lane and Grant Avenue between Geary and Post Streets to all vehicular traffic from November 25, 2019 through January 3, 2020 for Winter Walk 2019.

Winter Walk is an annual, award-wining, holiday tradition for San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, which drew 2.2 million visitors last year. This grand event brings increased pedestrian traffic to our stores and positive activity to our streets. The additional security with the event also makes the Union Square area safer for all to enjoy.

I am highly supportive of the USBID’s Winter Walk 2019 on Maiden Lane and Grant Avenue. Last year, Winter Walk attendees spent an estimated $47 million in Union Square. This means more business for our stores and tax revenue for the City.

I respectfully request ISCOTT approve the USBID’s application for Winter Walk 2019.

Updates

The momentum for Winter Walk is undeniable. This level of support sends a clear message to the committee.

The Hilton Hotels of San Francisco & its guests are located minutes away from this wonderful opportunity and truly believe that this brings a spirited and heartwarming event to our friendly city and the amazing area of Union Square. Please continue this Winter Walk in hopes to continue this festive occasion in our local community during the Holiday Season.

I've been a merchant in Union Square since 1974. Winter Walk has become one of the most popular events in the area, charming tourists and locals throughout the holiday season. I'm adding my voice to have Winter Walk be allowed to continue in 2019.

As the advocate for San Francisco's historic streetcars and cable cars, we support those civic activities that activate public spaces and bring people together, as the historic vehicles do. Winterwalk has been a very positive event and we believe it benefits the entire city.

San Francisco Travel is in full support of Winter Walk 2019 at Grant Avenue and Maiden Lane. The program has become a holiday destination and highlight for San Francisco’s retailers as footfall in the City continues to decrease. In 2018, Winter Walk attracted over 2 million visitors with its positive, family-friendly activities and experiences. Winter Walk also supports the local retail businesses and restaurants, as well as contribute vital tax dollars to the City.
