My cause along with 82+ homeowners is to help make Castleberry Road safer for children (and adults) as they are bused next year to Whitlow Elementary School. Over 1,000 elementary age children will be bused on Castleberry Road, and their parents, teachers and staff will be driving it also. As of Oct., 2006, there were over 4,000,000 vehicles travelling this road, 1/4 at 55 mph vs. a speed limit of 45 mph. Because no traffic study was done since it isn\'t known how much traffic this strip mall, plus other commercial develoment (that will probably be approved if the strip mall is approved), will generate. The FC Planning and Development Dept., stated in their Staff Report that \"The proposed rezoning, ZA 3438, could cause an excessive or burdensome use to local infrastructure....If the estimated start time for construction of this project is at the same time as the widening of Castleberry Road, the applicant\'s proposal would cause less burden to the infrastructure.\" Though the widening of Castleberry Road was planned with the present SPLOST money, that is no longer the case and it isn\'t known at this time when this road will be widened. However, there are members of the BOC, Commissioners Laughinghouse, Ledbetter and Harrell who have voted to approve this rezoning and even gotten FC Engineering to allow the developer to cut down trees on FC right-of-way, and it appears that these 3 will vote once again for approval on 4/17/08 unless there is a louder protest from children and their parents on or before 4/17. I plan to send this to a number of subdivisions in Cumming where children live who will attend Whitlow in 2009 and I plan to send it by tomorrow, 4/12/08.
Castleberry is already a death trap as it is. Adding a strip mall right there is just begging for an accident to happen with all the buses running kids to school. Fix the road first!!

Total insanity. Why approve more traffic when the road isnt even widened yet? Think about the kids for once instead of just developers.
