Superintendent Michelle Dutrow, business Manager Jason McMillen, elementary principle Mark Mitchell and West Branch board members are plotting to tear down the cherished metal slide of the West Branch playground because they view the slide as a safety concern. The slide has been around for over 40 years and has been a part of the community's childhood and specifically the childhood of the students at West Branch Area. The slide has safely stood along the hill for decades and still continues to reside there today as sterdy as ever. Mitchell had admitted that there have been zero instances of a person being seriously or even minorly injured as a result of the slide. Despite the slides clean record and longstanding structure, the West Branch school board and authority figures want the slide out of their hair with little regards for what removing the slide will do to the community. Why do they feel it is necessary to deconstruct our precious slide and topple our childhood memories with little valid reason? Sign this petition to save our beloved slide by stopping it from being wrongly demolished!

As a 1988 graduate of West Branch, I spent countless hours of elementary recess sliding down that slide. I could see removing the slide if there were accidents over the years, but as stated by school officials nothing. Leave a little history and heritage stay.
If safety is an issue with the slide because of the support beams underneath it, then wouldn't it make sense just to put up some sort or wooden or concrete wall? It'll keep the kids from potentially harming themselves like what the article states, and the slide would be able to stay. It wouldn't be that difficult to build it either, and it'd only take a week to complete it too.
It's safe enough for kids! No reported injuries on that slide. I had a lot of childhood memories there and I remember having a "slide train" and having the time of my life. We as a community just need to tinker with the slide and make it safer so it meets the requirements. -Juli
I went down that slide now 17 years later both my children have. The slide is our memories. It is safe and it is a staple to that playground. If you tear it down it should be GIVEN for the grange.
The slide was put in 25 years ago and they are just realizing is unsafe??? If it was that big of an issue, the slide would have been removed 24 years ago.

I have never been injured nor known anyone to be injured on that slide. However if you replace it with a taller one off the ground there will be far more injuries from children climbing and falling off. Those injuries happen all the time.
