My son attends WES, with class sizes that large I am afraid that he will just be "another" student instead of getting the care and help that he receives now. Already, I hear at all his IEP meetings that he excels better in a smaller class size and there is already 21 in his class. With the extra classrooms, make smaller class sizes not larger!! That way all kids can get the proper attention and care they need at an elementary level.

Concerned parent of WES children. My youngest' child's teacher has 21 kindergarten students. I have volunteered for craft activities and when finished I then helped with evaluating (power words) some children for the remainder of my time because the teacher needed the help. I can not imagine another 7 children in that classroom. Would there be a full-time aide (to help all) for a higher student/teacher ratio? Is the classroom square footage large enough for a healthy learning environment for that many people? PLEASE reconsider increasing class sizes. Thank you

Classes of that size are not conducive to learning, especially when you factor in that some students have specific needs that require more time of the teacher. Please do not allow this to happen!

My grandchildren go to WES and I am standing up for keeping the present Teacher/Student ratio.
Cut down and consolidate the high paid administrative staff instead.

Teachers work tirelessly no matter the amount of students in their classroom. However, smaller class sizes allow for more individualized student attention, less behavior problems and higher student performance. In addition, having empty classrooms in one building is not fiscally responsible when other buildings in the district are overcrowded and learning conditions are not optimal.

I have taught all elementary grades over 21 years. Small class size is key to student success. Teachers will continue to work, work, work despite the number of kids, but we need to support the leaders of kids so we can set up tomorrow's leaders for success, both academically and emotionally, knowing their teacher can take the time to know them. It's so hard to do this with a large class. My children are affected in BASD as well.

Fighting the same battle at BES. Taking 4th grade down to 3 classes. They want better high school performance, but this won't happen without a strong foundation in elementary school! Class size matters!

As a recent Boyertown Senior High School graduate and former student at WES I know how important it is that students be taught in a smaller class size. Students do better in school and tend to participate more when there's less students and get more one on one time with the teacher. I personally loved when I had smaller classes because it made me be comfortable with the people I was around and we as a class seemed to get more done. It's a waste of resources to downsize and a waste of taxpayer money. Why fix something if it isn't broken?

In a classroom of 25+ it is impossible to meet all the needs of the students. Smaller class sizes mean that the students receive more attention and have less learning problems later. A few years from now, Boyertown will realize their mistake and the pendulum will swing the other way!

I teach first grade in a neighboring district. Our class sizes are large, and have always been larger than Washington's. I've been so happy with the smaller class sizes my children have thrived in at Washington. I can attest to the fact that larger class sizes produce more behavior problems, less individualized attention, less differentiation, loss of instructional time, and less productivity. As a parent & taxpayer, I would like to see my tax money going to employing MORE teachers and staff, not less!

26-28 is way too large, why is the school district not interested in utilizing the space in each building efficiently? Seems senseless to have classrooms overflowing in other buildings and vacant ones at WES.

We had 30 in a class when I went to school. All the kids struggled with that many in the room, not just the kids that had learning disabilities.
My middle son had aides in the class so they could walk around and help the one's that were assigned them, about 10 kids per aide.
