Wellesley administration finally folded and agreed to our demands for van access and proper staff support. They tried to ignore us for long enough but our pressure forced their hand. We won this fight and now we keep watch to ensure they actually deliver on these promises.

Final supporters
As leaders of service organizations with large volumes of Wellesley counselors, we desperately need support from Wellesley's administration to make sure that our counselors have the option to volunteer with Federal Work Study and have a practical and sustainable method of transportation to get to our programs on time. As of now, with CWS's total overhaul, we have absolutely zero support coming from Community Engagement. We have one interim staff member to answer our questions and make sure our needs are met, but this is not enough especially when Career Education was remodeled to have over 20 staff members. Please read the email we have written to our contacts at Community Engagement and Career Education for our full list of demands, which are College Van access, time sheets, and EZ passes. We work hard every day to make sure that we are servicing the needs of our counselors and the neighboring communities. It should not be a financial burden to want to be a part of something bigger than yourself.

The momentum behind this is undeniable and it proves that the administration cannot keep ignoring the basic needs of our counselors. Career Education has plenty of staff to spare while we are left with nothing but empty promises and massive logistical headaches. This is only the beginning of us holding them accountable for their failure to support our service work.

I was part of Chinatown Afterschool Program last semester, and was very thankful to the student drivers. However, if volunteers have to pay for tolls and gas, and even car rentals, this could potentially prevent students from being able to volunteer. Administration should do its best to give all students (regardless of financial situation) opportunity to volunteer-- primarily through providing support for transportation.
Wellesley prides itself on nurturing students "who will" - including those who become community organizers and advocates. It's unfortunate, then, that the overhaul of the CWS has allowed those opportunities that once previously allow students to make a difference in their communities to fall through the cracks.
It is an obvious equity issue to not financially support counselors through the Federal Work Study program and transportation.
As a counselor who has to take a later bus and arrive to Program late each week, the lack of transportation is a burden. The semester is almost halfway over and I've been arriving late each time, and I definitely think this takes away from my ability to help the kids and it strains my connection with them.
As a leader of a volunteer program in Boston (BRYE 121), I sign onto this petition with the knowledge that our program is faltering without the support of Wellesley's administration. It is outrageous that we have to beg for support to do service work. Career Education dropped the word "service" from its title, but it is ridiculous to drop it from its priorities.
So I assume that there is no public transportation (T) from Boston to Wellesley College ?
This is unacceptable!

Not having vans for transportation is directly impacting our service to students. I appreciate the work of Wellesley Career Education, but our program is not sustainable if our needs are not met.
