Following the overwhelming success of The Cellar Peanut Pub in Pella, IA, plans are underway to bring a microbrewery to town.

Betsy Duffy and Mindi Vanden Bosch have proposed the launch of a local microbrewery, Gezellig Brewing Company, to downtown Pella. Gezellig is the Dutch word for "cozy", and the business will provide a warm and welcoming space to gather for people of all ages. Included in the offering is great craft beer, craft sodas, and some plans to have complimentary food available.

Because there may be some zoning changes necessary to make this happen, the pair of entrepreneurs are asking for public support to ensure City Council members understand the positive impact it will have on the community. The discussion process with the city began back in October of 2017 (see article here). While the City Council has been supportive of moving forward with such a project, it's important that they hear from community members and visitors in case hurdles come up during the process.

While details are still being worked out, here is what has been proposed:

- This woman-owned business would create a community gathering space that is family friendly and welcoming to both residents and visitors.

- It would be located in downtown Pella and enhance the area as a destination hotspot. The purpose of putting Gezellig in the central business district would encourage patrons to stay downtown to shop before or after visiting.

- The business would continue to partner with the local community and businesses to feature products from the area and the state.

To make you voice heard and encourage the City of Pella to support the launch of this business, please sign our petition to be presented at an upcoming City Council hearing.
