Final supporters
We need a vacation rental ordinance that makes it easy and practical for Monterey County property owners to sign up and participate, and that is easy for the County to administer. The City of PacificGrove adopted a great system in 2010. Monterey County needs an ordinance like theirs:
· Make it easy for property owners to join. Such an ordinance will also help benefit local visitor‑serving businesses.
· Require that all short-term rentals pay our Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) so that visitors to the County help support the services local residents need.
· Establish strict and enforceable standards to prevent neighborhood impacts and maintain the residential character of our local neighborhoods.
Until we have a strong and enforceable vacation rental ordinance in place, everyone is disadvantaged. We are not collecting taxes our government needs; we are not benefitting our tourist economy; and we don’t have effective enforcement to protect our neighborhoods.

I have been staring at the Pacific Grove ordinance rules again because they just make so much sense and honestly it is frustrating to keep explaining this to the county officials who keep avoiding the conversation. People are still telling me their nightmare stories about neighborhood noise and it really drives home why we need this structure so badly but it feels like shouting into the wind sometimes.

If a vacation rental ordinance system can work successfully for Pacific Grove, which is as beautiful and tourism driven as any city on the peninsula, it can surely work for all of Monterey County.
a well structured, well regulated vacation rental industry will benefit our community, and help stop the "underground" rental practices that cause the majority of complaints and problems in our residential neighborhoods.
Our guests love our retreat-like suite, walking distance to Monterey beaches and restaurants. Longest stay is 6 days, most stay 1 or 2 nights and love the comfort. They eat out and enjoy our coast and certainly are a part of the tourist economy, but seek out a home-stay destination.
I wish to rent out my home occasionally, but have be stalled because of the unreasonable ordinance for rentals. By generating rental income, we will be able to keep our lovely home. I want to do everything on the up-and-up, and pay the TOT taxes, in order to bring more revenue into the city of Monterey.
We want a responsible, reasonable vacation rental ordinance in Monterey County. We are owners at Monterey Dunes Colony for 40 years and need some rental flexibility in order to keep our home!
Sharing our homes with visitors is the hallmark of our wonderful community! It is the basis for our artful, musical, beautiful, historical existence. Tourism in all forms is paramount to the economic survival of Monterey County. Sardine factories, the U.S. Army, and agriculture are no longer our staples. Please support tourism, and enjoy the natural beauty that outsiders come in droves to appreciate, or we will soon move on to our next source of revenue: FRACKING!

Monterey county has a beautiful coast that should be accessible to public. But because of prohibited cost it is not really accessible except for the well to do. STR will bring more options to visitors especially families with children
