THE PETITION OF THE PEOPLE OF ANGUILLA

WE THE PEOPLE

NOTE that there has been in the midst of the COVID Pandemic a series of increased taxation that have been levelled on the People of Anguilla including increased taxes at the Hospital, Electricity, Water, and the Ports all of which have negatively impacted the livelihoods of Anguillians especially since the Pandemic has left a significant percentage of the population unemployed, many of whom have not recovered since the destructive Hurricane Irma of 2017 and who have no immediate prospect of employment in our single driven tourism economy

SAY NO TO THE FIRST READING OF GST AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION AT THIS TIME!

WE CANNOT ACCEPT FURTHER TAXES SINCE WE ALREADY HAVE INCREASED HOSPITAL FEES, INCREASED WATER AND ELECTRICITY COSTS, INCREASED PORT FEES AND CUSTOMS DUTIES AND NO JOBS. THE GST TAX MUST NOT BE INTRODUCED DURING A PANDEMIC. IT WILL DESTROY US AS A PEOPLE AND OUR ECONOMY.

WE OPPOSE THE GST TAX AT THIS TIME!

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION BELOW.

WE THE PEOPLE ASSERT THAT THE PASSING OF THE GST LEGISLATION WHEN THERE IS NO ECONOMY IS UNCONSCIONABLE AND UNCARING.

WE HERETO SET OUR SIGNATURES BELOW:

Unless price control is involved and that Food prices are guaranteed to not be affected negatively by the GST, I can’t support the GST. Bring livable wage, universal health coverage, price control first then adjust Taxation. Take care of the people first, they are the nation.

It is ridiculous to implement this taxation when people are suffering sometimes without food because there is no work for anyone to do because of the hurricane and the pandemic that we have. It is unconscionable to do such a thing..We voted youvin to represent us not destroy us.. Kenneth Richardson

It's very hard for us right now. We need to pay tax at some point but right now is so stressful with our economy situation. If it is so hard for me who is working and talking care of my family and parents. I can imagine how tough it is for persons not working

A VERY BAD TAX for anytime and even worse now. A tax with NO benefits, especially for low- and middle-income families and individuals, and our private sector businesses. A tax that WILL reduce OUR spending power, increase migration and CLOSE businesses in these very difficult times. NO, NO, NO to GST.

This isn’t the right time to place more pressure on Anguillians who are unable to bare their immediate burdens of lack, joblessness, fear of impending health crisis, and a aged and declining population. Timing is paramount and now is not the time to lay more burdens upon poor people.
