There is no need for a gun range so close to an elementary school (and frankly, so close to the rail trail). With there being a shooting range nearby at Island Lake, this proposed site is not necessary. Please reconsider for the safety of our community!

My child attends Dolsen Elementary School. I am strongly opposed to the location of this gun range. The Lyon Township trustees should listen to the community and put their personal opinions aside. The safety and well being of our schoolchildren should take priority!

While I am not opposed to this business in the Township, I do not know why it is proposed so close to an elementary school, thus making many families uncomfortable. There has to be a better location in Lyon Township.

I’m a resident of Lyon Township and am absolutely opposed to the location of this gun range! Why on earth would the Lyon Township Board of Trustees even consider this? Surely a better location can be found. One that doesn’t back up to the community rail trail and an elementary school playground! Accidents can and DO happen at gun ranges, even with safety measures in place. If you want to guarantee the safety of your residents and children from such accidents, you’ll deny the gun range at this location!

With so many parcels of land available outside of a school district, why place this so near children? Lead in the air, noise pollution, visibility to children, etc, I think it is completely wrong and indeed harmful to children.

I am not disputing amendment rights or saying that this business should not be in Lyon Township. I have a child that attends Dolsen and my family is opposed to the location right next to Dolsen. The only thing that separates the range and the playground is the Huron Valley Rail Trail. And there is also the possibility of an (not yet approved) outdoor component in the near future. Just this week there was yet another elementary school shooting. Plain and simple, the mere presence of a gun store and range so close to a school is inherently dangerous. Our children and community deserve better!

As a retired elementary school teacher, I have an extremely difficult time understanding how anyone could possibly think this is a good/safe idea.

I cannot believe that this was even considered so closed to Dolsen elementary! Absolutely ridiculous. We need to keep the safety and consideration of our kids in mind here! How do you think most of them would feel knowing this?? There is plenty of vacant land to move it elsewhere!
