We oppose the proposed annexation of land for development on Saltsdale Rd. Umatilla, FL
We oppose the annexation of land on Saltsdale Road by the city of Umatilla. We do not want large scale development in this area. This area is rural. Urban sprawl costs taxpayers money. We are very concerned about the impact this annexation and proposed development will have not only on our local roads, but on our rural lifestyle in North Lake County.

I was driving down Saltsdale Road earlier and the traffic is already getting worse even without the development starting yet which just makes me more certain that we are right to push back against this. I have been spending my nights digging through old planning documents to see exactly how they expect the infrastructure to handle the extra load because the current math just does not add up at all.

I was looking at the notification count on my phone and honestly my brain just kind of shorted out because I did not expect this level of response when I started typing this up at my kitchen table. It feels like people actually see what is happening to our roads and our quiet corner of the world. Maybe we really can stall this whole development process after all.

I love the area where I live. The rural area is where we raise our children, teach them about farm animals and wildlife in our neighborhood not in a zoo or in books. They learn about gardening and nature. Please don’t distort this area of land that God made and has given to us.
Mr. Olson claims on the city web page “I would like to see controlled growth in the city ...” not expand the city for new growth. Makes you wonder who this proposed annexation is good for. Council members do the right thing for the community vote NO annexation of Saltsdale Rd.
It is insane to think that Saltsdale Road can handle the exorbitant increase in traffic . The City of Umatilla did NOT think this proposal through as relates to long- term consequences. Shame on them!
We all moved out here for the quiet, land, no neighbor 20 feet from your home. What happened years ago Lake County was trying to slow growth and 1 home for every 5 acres was the decision. Stop trying to bring Orlando here , if we wanted that we would have moved there.
The citizens can not afford urban sprawl into rural areas. It costs too much to provide services. The people who choose to live in rural areas deserve to maintain their rural lifestyle. It just makes more property contiguous to the city limits so more property can be annexed by the city. Where do we stop?
Let us keep our rural areas rural!

We are a small, quiet and friendly town. However bringing in huge amounts of people in our area creates problems, not to mention more possibilities of crime, more disadvantages. The schools in Umatilla are filled to capacity already. So it would create problems at the jump. I suggest if you want to boost the economy, you move to the Paisley/ Lake Macke area...they probably need more traffic.
