Dear Mayor and Council,
Re: Bylaw No. 2225, 2012 : 1801-1813 Garibaldi Way
This petition is submitted to you in support of the project proposed at the corner of Garibaldi Way and Government Road.
As we understand the facts, the property is zoned for the restaurant use, and the bank is the question before us. Further, the OCP designates the property as “mixed commercial” and given that, it seems like a very reasonable proposal in this location.
It will be good to see a second Tim Horton's to reduce congestion at the existing restaurant, and a new CIBC at this location will provide a service that is presently lacking for those of us who are CIBC clients and have to bank in West Vancouver. In addition, the upgrades to this unattractive intersection will be very welcome improvements.
We have heard the discussions regarding the concerns with the drive-thru buildings, and would like to assure you that we are in favour of them both. The drive-thru Bank in Squamish Station has not created any problems that we are aware of, and the Tim Hortons drive-thru is a service that is obviously very popular and could be more convenient with a second location to provide this service.
The concept of a drive-thru may not appeal to all, but is a great convenience for those in a hurry, with small children in car seats, the elderly and those with disabilities, and, provides added security for late night service.
We request that Squamish council give approval to this proposal in name of jobs and growth in Squamish.
