Wille Penrose has organised a day in the Dáil for the Irish Musical Community on September 28th between noon-2pm to make a case for introducing an amendment to the Broadcasting Act, which will establish a 40% Irish music quota for Irish radio, so that more of our talented singers, songwriters and bands (in all genres of music) will be given fair play on air. If you're behind the cause please be outside Dáil Éireann with your placard and your gripe for the mighty showdown on the big day. Please also sign this petition.

It would be nice to have some exposure on radio instead of the drivel that is usually pumped out. Let's follow Canada's example and support our own..and not just for the sake of it, but because there is so much good stuff from this Island.

Those of us who create music in Ireland are painfully aware that the traditional ways of generating income from recorded music have been eroded in recent years by the increase in digital streaming and cheaper online alternatives to purchasing a physical product. Beyond the not always practicable means of relentless touring and live performance, royalties from airplay provide a lifeline to songwriting talent. It's a bitter pill to swallow, knowing that you're struggling to pay annual taxes while the state to which you're diligently contributing does little or nothing to ease the means by which you make those contributions.

Give Irish Artists a fair chance. It is hard to earn a living as an Irish songwriter. Allowing Irish artists to be heard, especially upcoming artists would really help to support and nurture the incredible talent in this country.

More variety of music on daytime radio would showcase more Irish artists. Folk and Traditional deserves the same exposure as Hip Hop, Pop and Rock. There's room for it all.

I am a great singer/songwriter. However, I do not stand a chance if my country does not support me. And people wonder why majority of Irish talent have to travel abroad?

Irish artists need a solid foundation income and radio royalty can provide that. Support your fellow countrymen support your fellow creative artists and show your support!

It really is astonishing that Irish music of all sorts is feted worldwide, everywhere in fact, except Ireland. Here, we have an inverted-cool snobbery. We think anything that isn't Irish is cool while anything Irish smells of jaded aul' stagnant leprechaun piss :)

Disgrace what is happening to a lot of good songwriters
