As a parent paying for out of state tuition, I do not want my money being put to use to buy a hawk sculpture. Parking is definitely a priority. Make the spending useful, ask your students what they need.

Tuition money can be used much more efficiently and towards better causes.

I am completely unhappy about this decision. Why can't my tuition money go toward education instead of a statue that the school does not need. Confused and disappointed.

There are so many more important aspects of the university that could use more funding.

I feel sad that I spend over $12,000 on this school just for a statue
How about we actually spend $210,00 dollars on new desks, paying our professors the salary the deserve, and keeping students safe, educated, and engaged in our campus community.

This should be a decision the campus votes on, not just a tiny percentage of the school.

I honestly like the idea of the statue, I do, but BRONZE really? Come on! Why not a 10-ft statue painted red (it's the school color and it would look great with all the red roofs)? Do you think a giant BRONZE statue really makes MSU look good? I'm pretty sure any parent/ prospective student will see the statue and/ or the articles about it and say "looks like this school likes to waste money -- no thanks!!" I'm very, very embarrassed by this decision. Please consider using these funds for something much more useful, and downgrade to a statue that's NOT BRONZE.
The students at MSU deserve so much more than this.

There are plenty of aged buildings the need fixing, parking is extremely limited, and tuition is high. In the email sent out by the school it said the statue would symbolize pride for the avout 500 athletes and musicians, what about the thousands of students who need more financial aid, better classrooms, and more professors? A statue costing almost a quarter million dollars will NOT do that and it's embarrassing that the school would choose this as a way to spend that money.

I think this money could easily be used for many more things that are NEEDED by the student body. The arts building, for example, barely has warm water needed to properly dilute certain materials. Not to mention the lack of reliable heat in the building. I can't tell you how many times I've been in that building trying to work, while keep warm in my heavy coat. It's ridiculous. I would greatly appreciate if the university would put the money towards the STUDENTS instead of a gaudy decoration for the grounds.

A hawk isn't going to solve people's financial problems. Yes, it may show school spirit, but so does everything else on campus. An education with a place to park and a safe place to live is more important than a giant bird.
