I checked the page this morning and saw that over one hundred people have added their names to this effort. This is honestly much more than I imagined when I started this simple page. Thank you for showing that you care about our neighborhood space as much as I do.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stopped to sign this because I truly started this as a small personal worry. We are creeping toward that next threshold and it would be incredible if you could pass this along to neighbors so we can show the board exactly how much this parkway means to us before they meet.

I am truly humbled by the messages you have left here about how much this parkway means to our daily lives. This is entirely your movement and it is only because of your dedication that our concerns are finally being taken seriously by the town board.

This is not about a bike path. We have a Bike Path on West River Rd. Right now. (The best and safest part of biking around Grand Island). Our supervisor must have a different agenda. Closing West River parkway will change Grand Island landscape for ever.
This area has been open to the public since 1952 when eminent domain took it from the home owners. Bikes, horseback riding, snow mobiles, dirt bikes and walkers have been using it just the way it is. Go to DeVeaux in NF and see how the Robert Moses Pkwy closed for bike path. It is in disrepair and over grown.
I am for a bike path but don't believe the parkway should close, even some of the cyclist's club said they wouldn't use it, they like 30mph for their speed. Please look at other options..
i believe that by allowing the state to close the parkway residents will lose access to the river. I think the state will put up keep out of water signs due to liability issues,so that people will not be able to swim, fish or scuba dive as they do now.
As a 66+ yrs resident I am absolutely against this idea. It will create an eyesore with parking lots, littering and traffic issues. The inner road is too narrow, has no shoulders and has too low a speed limit to handle any additional traffic.
Keep the parkway open!! We have Beaver Island, Buckhorn and a bike path already. Fix what we have. Closure is not progress. it is a step back.
1. The service road is not designed to handle the extra traffic if the parkway is closed. 2. I believe it would raise safety issues for WR homeowners to have increased traffic flow on the service road. 3. With that, would come a decreased quality of life for the homeowners. 4. A bikepath would be great -- but who's going to maintain it? The state rarely even cuts the grass! The area looks nice because the homeowners care for it. 5. Closing the parkway would cause more harm than good, overall.

A bike path parallel to the parkway would work but closing the parkway would put too much traffic on the service road. Also taking out the parkway would close off the whole west river to those with mobility issues who don't ride bicycles.
