Watlington is a historic and attractive Town close by the Chiltern, and suffers from speeding cars, and heavy vehicles. The streets are narrow and some critical places lack adequate pavements to safeguard pensioners or children in buggies. Exceeding the 30mph speed limit along Britwell (B4009) and Cuxham Roads (B480) is the norm.
Recent "speed cushions" in Britwell Road have been ineffective, while Police, due to equipment and infrastructure, cannot enforce the 30mph speed limit to manage the problems. We the undersigned request and require the Parish and County Council with support of Thames Valley Police and other appropriate agencies to take our concerns seriously and take action to end speeding along the Britwell (B4009) and Cuxham Roads (B480) and across the Town generally. Do this now! Before someone is killed or seriously injured.
This petition will be mailed in electronic and hard copy to the County Council on March 31st 2010 together with a supporting press release to all local press.

The feedback from local residents keeps confirming that the current speed cushions are failing to stop the danger on our roads. I am spending my evenings collating these experiences to ensure the council understands that our patience has run out.

Living on Britwell is a nightmare. Cars fly past my front door constantly and it is only a matter of time before a child gets hit. Sort it out.
Those speed cushions are useless. They dont do anything to stop the lorries from speeding through the town. We need real cameras.
I avoid walking into town now because the traffic is too fast. It feels unsafe for anyone trying to shop or walk their kids to school.
Try walking a dog on these roads. Utterly terrifying. Nobody respects the 30 limit at all.
B4009 is basically a racetrack these days. Fed up with the noise and the danger. DO SOMETHING.
