I don't live in the area but speeding is a major problem in residential areas. Something needs to be done.

I completely agree for speed bumps. I also strongly suggest three way stops at every opportunity. Really sorry your son was hit, my heart goes out to the family.

I don't live in Southlands, but on occasion drive in the neighborhood, doing a respectful 40-45 kms, as it's a fairly active neighborhood with pedestrians, cyclist, many of them children. Please, folks, have some respect for those who live/play in this area!

I live on Barachois St. And people use it as a thorough fare from topsail road to Hamlin Road to get to the arterial. These people are in a hurry and always speeding. There are children at play on my street as well it is very upsetting to see. More neighbourhoods need to have speed bumps or signage.

More tickets / Police presence for a bit would help curb the problem also. It seems that everybody are in more of a rush lately, on the highways, streets and roads.

I share this sentiment, as someone who lives on an extremely busy residential street that has a posted speed limit of 40 km/h, but drivers often go double that in a hurry to get to Wal-Mart. My street has no signs posted, no speed bumps, nothing. I have never been able to let my children play outside in their front yard for this exact reason, and I fear I never will. The safety of its residents should be the top concern of every city/ town council. It should never have come to this.

Children should not be at risk while walking/playing in their neighbourhood. Something needs to be done to prevent this (or heaven forbid, something worse) from happening again.

It really makes me mad that it takes a child to have been seriously injured to get council to look at making changes so that your street will be safe. When in the east end of St John’s, it only takes money or a seat on council (Circular Rd, Winter Ave and Exeter Ave) to have changes made to those streets. I hope your little one is feeling better soon and I hope you get the necessary changes.

It is ridiculous that it takes an angel getting injured to cause change.

I live in Paradise and it's the same thing people actually had a drag race up a residential street at 3:40 in the evening! Yet they won't put in speed bumps? We need to protect our children!
