As a Ward 4 resident, I strongly support my community school, and disapprove of relocating our children outside of the community to attend school.
Community schools promote inclusivity, strong neighbourhoods and a sense of belonging in our children.
Accordingly, I oppose the following Notice of Motion proposed by our Ward 4 Trustee, Kathryn Bateman Olmstead, which, if passed, would see students from community schools in our Ward relocated to schools outside of their community.
Wording of extract of Trustee Bateman-Olmstead's Notice of Motion:
"Be it resolved that the Halton District School Board realign the English-track boundaries for English-track schools north of Upper Middle Road, dealing with Emily Carr and West Oak Public School directing students to lower enrolled schools south of Upper Middle."
Seeing two hundred and fifty signatures validates why I started this fight for my own children and our neighbors. I never expected this much support for our local schools when I first hit publish.

I have spent this week meeting with neighbors to discuss how these boundary shifts will disrupt our children's daily lives. Please keep posting your own stories about why our local schools are the heartbeat of Ward 4 because the school board needs to see the faces behind these maps.

Community schools are the heart of the ward. Keeping schools local is safer for everyone.

This is ridiculous. We bought our house specifically for this school. Keep our kids in our own ward.

NOT COOL. My daughter just started there and she has all her friends in the neighborhood. Do not split us up.

My kids walk to Emily Carr. Why would you force them to bus across town when we have a local school we love? Leave our schools alone.

Seriously? These kids are already settled. Dont disrupt their education just to move them to lower enrolled schools. Bad idea.

The school board needs to listen to parents not just look at spreadsheets. Our neighborhood needs this school for our community to stay connected.
