Residents in the Canon McMillan school district want the School Board to reconsider how to redistrict 50 students (K-3) within four (4) elementry schools which does not address the overcrowding issue long-term.

The current proposal results in:

* Students living on the same street attending different elementary schools

* Children being removed and added to the same school

* Children in the same household attending different elementary schools

* Children being bused to a school 10 minutes further away from their current

school

As parents, friends and neighbors of the affected children, we believe that this is a critical stage in their early educational development. Removing the children from their current schools on an individual basis will cause unnecessary stress, feeling like they are being singled out or punished which could ultimately impact their schoolwork. We want what is best for all of the children in the district - this proposal has 50 children 'taking one for the team'.

Do not approve the proposed redistricting recommendation.

Updates

March 22, 2014

The feedback from families across the district continues to reinforce why this proposed plan is fundamentally flawed. We are currently organizing our arguments to present at the next board meeting.

March 22, 2014

The response to this petition confirms that many families share our concerns regarding the proposed redistricting plan. Your collective engagement demonstrates that the district must adopt a more sustainable and equitable approach for our children.

It is not beneficial for the children at all to uproot them from there already established comfortable surroundings.

Stop the expansion with all the new HOA and the building. The schools have been overcrowded for years.

I have great-grandchildren in the Cecil elementary and I think it rediculous to move them and then move kids from Muse to Cecil

Just moved to the area. Oldest in in kindegarten at Cecil Elementary at bottom of the hill. She loves it. Her sister follows her in two (2) years. I hope that policy makers can guarantee to not redistrict again for a period of years and break up my girls. The proposed redistricting simply punts in favor of providing a long-term solution (like add/upgrade an additional school). You would expect that the massive growth expected in our area will result in much more tax dollars to accomplish a real fix.

Although my family will not be in CM district next year this still affects allot of friends & family. This needs to stop. Cabin McMillan should have planned better when using our tax dollars building the new HS.

Reminds me of the 1950's when all the grils from Strabane went to Canonsburg High School and all the boys except two from Strabane went to Cecil High School.. Then again in the 1980's when all the elementry students from Strabane were sent to Wylandville with busing provided and if you chose to attend Hawthorne School, you had to provide your own transportation.. No logic in either decision, but lasting effects were left ont the students. Realizing that some times adjustments must be made in the school district from time to time, children and their social enviroment should come first in the decision, not politics, towns they live in or streets where they lreside.

Think it is one of the most screwed up plans yet!
