None of our voices are being heard as a student body. Being in school gives us better education, better mental and physical health, and a way to socialize. We need ALL of that back. I am a sophomore in the state of New York. I am active in my school with an honor roll status, I was excited to audition and accept a part in our school musical, I was accepted into one of my schools higher choral programs and was chosen to go on a trip for it that got cancelled due to COVID. Now that we may not go back, none of those student earned programs will happen again and/or may be cut from the budget. We need to have those extracurriculars. They're not only fun but they are just as educational, if not more, as some of our academic classes. School gives us a routine and structure to follow. Being home and doing work assigned online is hard for many of us because of distractions. In class learning is more focused as well as having the teacher and peers there to help immediately. I personally look forward to going to school everyday. Its something that we grew up doing every day and being taken away from us is difficult. Many of my friends had trouble doing online learning because of anxiety, depression, or abusive/not safe homes. Being in school, you have a teacher or teacher's assistant there and ready to help you if you have a question. With distance learning, you only have certain hours you can ask things or send an email you have to wait for an answer. If you want to go back to school please sign this petition.
I was looking at some of the comments today and honestly some of the things people are going through are just heartbreaking because it really is so much more than just not having a desk to sit at anymore. It feels like we are all just shouting into the void right now but I promise I am trying to figure out who we actually need to email next because this silence from the top is getting really loud.

I honestly did not think this would take off like it has when I started typing this out in my room late at night. It is just wild to see so many of you feeling the exact same way about losing our routines and those programs that really matter to us. This is actually happening and I am just trying to process the fact that so many people are listening now.

COVID is not the only health risk here. Having a child with diagnosed anxiety and depression I can tell you distance learning was mentally horrific. Children with disabilities have significantly regressed. Pediatricians agree.

As a parent and an educator, I insist children return. To school. I personally will seek legal recourse if my child is prevented from receiving an in person education on a daily basis. I implore others to do the same.

Students are missing so much academically and socially. School districts need to have a smart, creative and appropriate plan in place to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Distance learning did not work for my children (high school and elementary school). They need to be back in the classroom.
