Xuedong Wang is an invaluable member of Harvard University's Chinese Language Program. Not only has her extensive knowledge of the Chinese Language and her perfected teaching methodology resulted in the publication of many highly acclaimed textbooks that are currently being used internationally but more importantly her capacity to connect with students and her dedication to her teaching goes above and beyond any quantifiable assessment. Moreover, it is rare to find a teacher whose passion and expertise allow them to have the capacity to simultaneously skillfully challenge their students in the classroom taking them to a level of understanding beyond their expectations, and be fully present for them outside of the classroom attending to their individual needs and questions generously and attentively. For the benefit of current Harvard students and future generations of Harvard students, we, Harvard University students, are zealously petitioning for the renewal of Xuedong Wang's contract. Xuedong Wang's contributions over the past two decades to the Harvard Chinese Language Program have shaped it into what it is today, and allowed the program to continuously receive international recognition for its excellence. It would be an unimaginable loss to Harvard University on multiple levels including her fellow teachers who she continues to train, her current and future students, and the University as a whole who international prestige is fully dependent on its excellent teachers, if her contract was not renewed.

Wang Laoshi is hands-down the best teacher I have had in my 3 years at Harvard. She took an interest in my Chinese education, was always available to meet whenever I needed, and is the reason I have continued to study Mandarin and reach my current level of proficiency. Harvard would lose a dedicated mentor and inspiring teacher if she is let go.

I loved class with Wang Laoshi. She was always willing to make extra time when my schedule didn't coincide with class office hours, and she had a knack for explaining the subtleties of translations. You'd be crazy to let her go.

Wang Laoshi is such a wonderful teacher who has contributed enormously to my experience of learning Chinese. Please do let her continue teaching at Harvard!

One of the best teachers I had at Harvard this year, and was one of the highlights of my academically unremarkable freshman year - and not just for expertise, but for adding that little unidenitifiable edge of familiarity, comfort, fun, and real connection to her students' classroom experience.

I plan on starting Chinese in the Fall and I would hate if I couldn't learn from the best during my time here!

Wang Laoshi is phenomenal and I have benefited so much from her teaching. The Chinese program, especially the second year level program (120ab), is that much better and stronger because of her. Knowledgeable, passionate, dedicated, caring -- Wang Laoshi embodies all the characteristics of what it means to be a great teacher. Harvard would be at a huge loss without her.

Honestly, best teacher i've had at Harvard. The Mandarin and all language departments suffer from this ridiculous policy that has been overturned in peer institutions like Princeton. It's time we had a conversation about valuing these instructors. I've gained more from being in a classroom learning with these fantastic mentors than many of my other classes by tenured professors; I realize that the demand for personal teaching is difficult to fulfill; however, when it exists, the students' benefit is unprecedented, and where it exists, it must be protected. Wang Xuedong, without you I would not have gone to Beijing to study Mandarin more intensely. Without you, I would not have chosen to concentrate in East Asian Studies. Without you, my time at Harvard would have been lackluster. I owe so much to you and your unique, skillful ways of imparting knowledge and fostering enthusiasm and care. You are a highlight of my Harvard career and my life thus far; thank you.
