Wakefield Council are planning to remove the qualified teacher status of the Music Services Staff.
This will result in many people who have spent years training having to take a salary cut of thousands of pounds and will, we believe, result in the loss of many dedicated and invaluable staff and, ultimately, in the demise of Wakefield Music Services.

My own child found their confidence in these classrooms and losing our qualified teachers would destroy that lifeline for every student in Wakefield. We are nearing five hundred names and hitting that goal today proves to the council that our community refuses to let these educators be undervalued.

Seeing this level of support for our teachers is overwhelming and reminds me exactly why this battle is worth fighting. This momentum proves that our community recognizes the talent and dedication of the people who teach our children music every day.

Keep our teachers! They are the heart of the music service
My son has learned so much from these teachers. Do not ruin the music program just to save a few quid.
Unbelievable. Stop cutting corners at the expense of our childrens education.
This is absolute rubbish. Professional musicians who have put in the time to get qualified deserve to be paid properly. Wakefield council needs to get a grip.
Ridiculous idea. Kids will be the ones missing out when all the good tutors leave.
