A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 to allow buses to park in residential neighborhoods in the City of Attleboro.

Sign this petition and tell the City to VOTE YES!

The way the ordinance would be re-worded is to allow school buses to park in neighborhoods during very strict hours and conditions. This would allow drivers to park their buses in their own driveways (with a 15 ft. set back) from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Most people aren't even home during those hours. There will be NO overnight or weekend parking allowed.

There are many excellent reasons to approve this. Fuel costs for buses would be lowered, as well as less wear and tear on the buses (meaning less costly maintenance). More importantly, it would allow drivers to get their buses to the schools in a much more timely and efficient manner in the case of an emergency. In the event of a bomb scare or school closing, buses could get to the schools much quicker due to the fact that the driver is home with his/her bus. When the buses are parked on Pleasant St. (where they park now), it could take easily up to an hour or more to get buses to the schools.

When drivers have their bus at home, they tend to STAY at home, thereby being able to hop on the bus at a moments notice. If drivers have their car, they tend to go out and do things/go places, sometimes quite far. This means, if there is an emergency, the driver(s) must make their way back to the bus yard, then to the school.

If you have a child in the Attleboro school system, this is something to think about.
