Article 27 proposes an amendment to town zoning bylaws that would permit for-profit educational uses in the RO, RS, RT, and CN districts. The petitioner is asking the town to allow establishment of for-profit schools within all residential districts throughout the town and in commercial neighborhood business districts (CN). Examples of for-profit educational schools include, but are not limited to, driver's education schools, music school, language programs, after-school math/reading tutoring, SAT prep, financial training, and daycare programs. Placing businesses like these in a residential neighborhood may lead to increased traffic and parking issues, increased noise, pedestrian safety issues, and decreased property values. In addition, it opens up the possibility of any commercial enterprise of any size operating within residential areas.

Join other concerned Lexingtonians by signing the petition to Vote No for Article 27 today. Let our Selectmen know that we want to keep our neighborhoods for our homes and families.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you feel the same way about our neighborhood zoning. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who care about protecting our town and I am just humbled to be a part of this effort with you.

This would totally change the character of our quiet street. Please reconsider allowing this.

The traffic on my street is already bad enough during school drop off times. We really dont need more businesses adding to the chaos.

My husband and I signed the petition to bring it before the town without giving it much thought. Now I realize that Article 27 is not an appropriate amendment to our town zoning bylaws.

In our neighborhood, we have a major influx of cars for a few large parties a year - after my neighbor's dance troupes have their recitals/ performances. I don't find it a problem because I know it is a rare occurrence, marking a special event. I would not feel good about it if the streets were parked so full on a regular basis. Unless there are tight controls for parking, usage caps, and clear considerations for fire safety (e.g. clearance for fire engines, etc.) this zoning bylaw opens the door to major neighborhood changes. Please vote no on Article 27.

I vote no. It is not a good idea to start modifying residential districts.
