South Africans in general have an appetite for travel, like many other citizens around the word,South Africa also has a fast growing middle class. South Africans still however need visas to Travel to Europe (The Schengen area). Why? some people might say that it is because of high crime rates in South Africa, others might say that if Europe were to open their borders there may be a wave of illegal immigrants , or people who overstay their time in Europe.
So here are some facts:
a. 6 out of the top 10 most dangerous countries in the world (By homicide per capita) have visa free access to the Schengen area(Europe)?.
b. 60% (soon to be 73%) of South American countries have visa free access to the Schengen states, compared to the 0% of continental African countries.
c. Out of 36 of the top countries where the most asylum seekers come from, 8 of those countries have visa free access to the Schengen area?
South Africa doesn’t even feature on this list meaning very few (If any) of our citizens go seek asylum in Europe or other countries.
d. Colombia, which is a country comparable to South Africa, with a similar population, similar GDP, and even Similar homicide rate per capita will very soon gain visa free access to the Schengen area.
Visa free travel has very little to do with crime, and everything to do with sharing of information.
South Africans are left to fend for themselves, seeing as our government can't or don't want to work for the people, and start negotiating with foreign countries for visa free travel, we the people will raise our voice, we demand to be heard.
