  1. Hello, my name is Jimar Cunningham. After careful consideration I have decided to run for Vice President for the 1L’s. Here is some background information; I attended Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania but I am originally from Rochester, NY. I graduated in May of 2021. At my time at Gannon University I graduated with a bachelors in Political Science, and obtained a minor in Criminal Justice. Also, at Gannon I was a student athlete playing football. I received many awards for my academic achievements as a student athlete including a four time PSAC scholar-athlete, three-time Academic achievement award winner, and I was also a 2021 inductee into the Chi Alpha Sigma student athlete honor society.

Outside of my academic and sports career I was part of many community service projects and an advocacy group that brought important conversations to the campus about important topics that we felt needed to be discussed. Especially the topic on police brutality and what exactly Black Lives Matter entails, these conversations helped bring to light different backgrounds and experiences on a topic that affects all of us. As an African American man, I feel obligated to step-up when positions like this arise to give a voice to not only minorities, but anyone who feels misunderstood or forgotten about.

In saying that, I attain crucial skills to be a successful VP. I believe the four major components to being a successful VP are approchibilty, communication, creativity, and leadership. As VP I am and will be approachable, although I am only 22 year old I have constantly moved from state to state. I know how it feels to need something and not feel as if I have someone to turn to. I do not want anyone in our class to feel like that; I want to be someone who you can come to with any ideas or difficulties that you may be having. At the end of the day, I am here for all of us to make sure that we have a successful and productive year. Communication among our student body and the leaders of UDM will be vital; communication entails teamwork, which I am no stranger to LOL. Also I have creativity, just being out of undergrad I am used to seeing different events that attract students to engage to make this year fun. I want to be able to set up different events for the holidays and events to allow us to interact outside the classroom along with community service opportunities. Lastly is leadership, I promise to always put my best foot forward for our class and advocate for the needs of our class to the best of my ability.
