The global sail cruising community petitions the King, Prime Minister and Government of the Kingdom of Tonga on behalf of the residents and business operators of the Vava'U group of islands. We feel that the current lack of a consistent and plentiful supply of fuel for road and sea transport risks causing severe and lasting damage to the economy and living standards of its resident population. It is disrupting the current peak season for tourism and will have a lasting effect on the popularity of this area of Tonga, in addition to its impact on the daily life of widely distributed population.

I have been hearing from local business owners who are struggling to keep their boats running for visitors. This silence from the authorities is frustrating but I am currently drafting direct letters to the ministries involved to demand a clear plan for these islands.

Seeing this kind of momentum brings me back to the nights I spent worrying about how the families in Vava'u would manage their daily lives under these fuel shortages. It is overwhelming to know that so many people understand why our community and this beautiful region need reliable support.

Can't imagine how difficult it would be to run a fuel dependant business with a shortage of fuel. Could also understand why it might discourage yachts and vessels from visiting which would be a big loss to the local economy.

Let alone the outer Islands and fishing boats who cannot come in if they have outboards, and Island boats running on diesel will now be affected as well

We need fuel for the boats we charter for the hundreds of tourist we bring into Vava'u every year. The Tongan Government has to be accountable for this stuff up!

The situation really is deplorable and disappointing that fuel suppliers and the government did not care enough to plan better.
