Recently, West Milford Engineering/DPW began construction on a drainage project on Vanorden Road. If you are familiar with Vanorden Road, undoubtedly you will have enjoyed the majestic column of Norway Red Maples. As part as their project a decision was made to remove many of these beautiful trees after protest by local residents a temporary hold was put on the removal of any additional trees. The town council will be deciding the fate of the remaining Maple trees.
By adding your signature we hope to send a strong message to the West Milford town council/engineering department that the remaining trees should be saved.

I board my horse at West Milfird Equestrian. These are beautiful trees. It would be a shame to destroy some of them for a drainage ditch. There must be another way to complete this project.
The trees are not only beautiful, they provide shade, homes for birds, chipmunks, squirrels and lots of other animals. Their roots also absorb rain waters and help prevent erosion. Taking them down will be a big mistake and would look terrible. All of us at west Milford equestrian enjoy their beauty and shade they provide the street. They also help cool the neighborhood by providing shade and breeze.
There is surely a better way to address the drainage issue on this road without destroying all the trees! The trees also take up water.
This is an outrage. At this point, the only thing West Milford has going for it is its natural beauty. My entire life I’ve taken visitors down Van Orden Road as an example of this beauty, and to think the trees would no longer be there deeply upsets me. I hope an alternative solution can be reached. Please save our beloved trees.
I live on VanOrden. This is a mess and there has to be another way to fix the drainage on this street. Cutting these trees does not make any sense!

There is no reason for this. Tear up the road and do it right and leave the trees alone. The road needs to be graded properly and not have a huge crown in the center of the road with out proper storm drains that work. Meaning water goes around the storm drains
