Final supporters
Due to the current John Stark Regional High School (JSRHS) policy, the selection of valedictorian and salutatorian take into consideration only the GPA and ignore all other aspects of students' actions and disciplines. Currently, the student with the highest grade point average is given the honor of valedictorian and the student with the second highest grade point average is given the honor of salutatorian.
The school tells students all through high school to have regard for our peers and teachers, to have respect for ourselves, peers, teachers, our learning environment, and to have integrity in our work and education. We suggest a change in the policy to better represent JSRHS in the community and beyond.
We would like the JSRHS motto of Regard, Respect and Integrity to be a part of the decision along with GPA. The two students that represent the class and school should show regard, respect and integrity along with a high GPA.

Seeing this momentum grow proves I am not the only one who believes our school honors should reflect character rather than just a number. It is clear that so many of you value the same integrity that I hope to see recognized at graduation.

Our class deserves to be represented by someone who has earned the position of valedictorian and has not only respect for themselves but their fellow classmates
I do not think John Stark will do anything about this. However it is appropriate to let our voices to be heard and support what is right. My fellow students have complained all year of her cheating. It is a privilege to be the valedictorian. Cheating your way up there is not going to get you anywhere in life. This is very unfair to the other students that have worked so hard in school just to have someone beat them by cheating. I proudly sign this petition.
This petition is to include the guidelines of what the school tries to instill in their students. Trying to mold the students of today to be our leaders of the future doesn’t help when the message is mixed and what many take from this is, cheaters always win. By not following rules, there is chaos. In college, there are rules. You get caught cheating in college, you get an F and go up against an academic standard committee. I hope that this will make someone more accountable going forward with this life altering honor. This isn’t about the known person who was caught, it’s about going forward to make sure something like this does not happen again if the regard, respect, and integrity was part of the process.
I agree that this is an unfair way of selecting our valedictorian and we need to incorporate our John stark way to give it to those who deserve it.
Cheating sets a bad precedent for the classes below us. The valedictorian is not a position for people that would do that.
the situation wasn't ignored or swept under the rug, punishment was dealt. You just want more punishment than anyone else would get in that situation. For personal benefit. Like making a forum to throw a confidential situation into the limelight is for personal benefit only at the expense of a kid who made one mistake. That's hypocritical and isn't about integrity, it's about personal benefit. to say that she did 'nothing to deserve' it after she was involved in sports, work, clubs, and every possible activity, and more all while taking the toughest possible classes is a joke.

I have been ashamed of JSRHS for years with their lax rules for some students that are accepted as ‘Peer Leaders’ and into NHS, caught drinking at parties, vaping on school property, not being in all honors classes... Someone needs to turn this school around and promote and reward hard work and dedication.
