This petition is to include the guidelines of what the school tries to instill in their students. Trying to mold the students of today to be our leaders of the future doesn’t help when the message is mixed and what many take from this is, cheaters always win. By not following rules, there is chaos. In college, there are rules. You get caught cheating in college, you get an F and go up against an academic standard committee. I hope that this will make someone more accountable going forward with this life altering honor. This isn’t about the known person who was caught, it’s about going forward to make sure something like this does not happen again if the regard, respect, and integrity was part of the process.

The fact that you felt the need to make a petition just to get what you want is ridiculous. Olivia beat you in all aspects beyond her gpa. She paid her debt for what she did. Now move on and get over it. If you wanted it so bad you shouldn’t of dropped out of honors and AP classes...

I have been disappointed with the administration at John Stark since day one. This whole scandal comes as no surprise to me considering how little regard the adults in charge of this school have for doing what is right. When it comes to doing what is in the best interest of the students, the administration often chooses to turn a blind eye because it would be too difficult for them. I have kept quiet during the last four years of being involved with John stark when it came to the grading system being a complete joke, an incompetent principal, and countless examples of them sweeping problems under the rug because it’s convenient for those in charge, but this whole situation has gone too far. Instead of rewarding the salutatorian for ACTUALLY working hard and NOT cheating, they choose to ignore the whole situation because it would cause them too much trouble or possibly damage their image. Valedictorian means a lot more than just a title and getting to say a speech at graduation, it means that someone’s years of hard work have finally paid off and it could really impact someone’s future (ie: scholarships to college). I would like to say I’m surprised that John Stark is handling this scandal in the wrong way, but judging off of how things have been handled in the past, this is exactly what I would expect out of this school. Hopefully they can learn from this experience and stop rewarding people who have done nothing to deserve what they are being given. I am sure that the administration at Stark knows that they are in the wrong, but they are too afraid to actually do what is right because it could get them in trouble for allowing this type of behavior to go on for the past four years (because I know for a fact that they have been told about this situation on numerous occasions). Hopefully this whole thing will cause the school to open their eyes and actually go by their motto of “regard, respect and integrity” because at this point they look like the biggest hypocrites

People love to take someone down without even knowing the facts. For parents and kids trying to shame a kid without knowing anything is a disgrace. Integrity is not cheating, drinking, lying, etc... Integrity is also not setting up a sting to take down someone. Integrity is also not setting up a forum to take someone down for your own benefit.

I have known Olivia since day 1. We did Girl Scouts together when we were kids. She made a mistake and took responsibility for it. Get over it. I know how smart and worthy she is. Olivia is in the highest classes possible. She deserves the credit she’s getting. She has worked very hard all 4 years. She made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes in life and you learn from them. She should not be getting more punishment than she already is/has.

It’s extremely upsetting to see people that have no clue what they are talking about try and take something away from someone as hard working as Olivia. For someone to try and say that she cheated her way up is very arrogant and just untrue. I hate to see people putting down someone for achieving a goal they have worked for so hard the past four years.

Olivia was already punished for cheating on the test, this one test did not give her the GPA she has that was earned and a boy and his group of girls who don’t like Olivia and will jump at any opportunity to talk down on her stating “she cheated all year”, this should not qualify as evidence or permit further punishment. I’m disgusted at the way my peers and our community have teamed up against one girl who I know stays up til 2 in the morning working hard while juggling her job, sports, and a social life. She deserves what she has left of her recognition and this attempt to take more away is so wrong.

This is an honor that should be achieved through honesty, integrity and hard work. I have been ashamed of JSRHS for years with their lax rules for some students that are accepted as ‘Peer Leaders’ and into NHS, caught drinking at parties, vaping on school property, not being in all honors classes... Someone needs to turn this school around and promote and reward hard work and dedication.
