Final supporters
- My name is Joy Atkinson and I own The Studio 34a Plassey Street Penarth.
- I purchased The Studio in 2013 and have been applying for planning to become residential since then.
- I pay council tax.
- I have improved the frontage by spending £1,000 on a gate for my neighbours.
- My neighbours have no objections to my living at The Studio.
- I have applied once and it was refused, am now applying with adapted plans rectifying the Councils' issues.
- Penarth Town Council approved the original application, but are now refusing the amended application that adheres to the Vale's requests.
- I have gone through the proper channels (although I was advised to live here for four years to 'keep my head down' then it would have been automatically residential!) doing what I thought to be the right thing.
- Still the Vale of Glamorgan want me out by September '16 even with the housing situation as it is and the fact that they would be forfeit the council tax for this property.
- I moved here to be near my Daughter and Grandchild now Grandchildren as Daughter has recently had twins, so no room there.
- Nearly all my money went on purchasing The Studio. I wouldn't be able to get much of my money back if I sold or indeed could sell The Studio to buy elsewhere. I don't earn enough to pay rent and live! Making me HOMELESS!!

Seeing 250 people back my struggle to keep my home at The Studio brings me more comfort than I can properly put into words. It feels like I am finally being heard after years of fighting this council alone while trying to stay close to my grandchildren.

I hope the council just sees sense, this is crazy! Making her homeless will only cost the council more to re-home her, there is an affordable housing shortage at the moment, allowing her to stay just makes financial sense! I hope this all works out for you.
Another crazy decision in Penarth. Fabulous buildings over the years have been left to fall down and the council do nothing yet they are prepared to make someone homeless. Have some common sense and let Joy stay in her home.
Which is better, an unused space going derelict or a property with someone taking care of it and paying into not only the local coffers with council tax but within the community. Good luck!
This is appalling. Why would the council make this lady homeless? She is happily living in the place that she bought. She is paying her bills and tax. Her neighbours are happy with her living there. What is the problem?
I'm appalled by the Vales decision in this case! Makes no sense in current times of a housing crisis. Someone willing to support themselves and yet will now end up a 'burden' on the state.
If she lived in a flat she wouldn't have a garden. She owns this property and is happy to live there. If she is evicted she will have no money to live anywhere else and will have to rely on council handouts at the cost of the taxpayer. She does not want to do this. It is ludicrous that she cannot stay there when the neighbours have not objected

I don't understand why this is such a big issue. We have a major shortage of housing. This lady has housed herself at no cost to anyone other than herself. Please allow this lady to live where she is safe and comfortable, causing no problem to anyone else.
