To the University of Virginia Administration: We the undersigned encourage the UVA administration to create a better, more transparent and more accountable commencement speaker selection committee to better reflect and respect the diverse opinions of the student body. While we do not wish to attack Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III on a personal basis, we do not believe that his opinions and actions are in accordance with the values that the University of Virginia should uphold. We wish for our Commencement Ceremony to signify our unity as a class, our academic commitment, and our dedication to diverse opinions. This should not be a moment of division. We sign this letter, not because of Judge Wilkinson himself, but rather, because of the way in which he was selected.
