The Syrian community has recently learned that United Steelworkers (USW) will be hosting Russia Today conspiracy theorist and apologist for Assadist war crimes Eva Bartlett - along with Ken Stone and Steven Gowans - in Toronto on Wednesday, January 25 at their Steelworkers Hall.

This is part of a speaking tour aimed at spreading disinformation about the mass war crimes committed by the Assad regime in Syria since 2011. Eva Bartlett is a Canadian blogger made famous by Russia Today, Russia's state media outlet, where she has claimed that the overwhelming evidence of Assad's war crimes are simply a vast Western conspiracy. The United Nations, Amnesty International, the Violations Documentation Centre in Syria, and a wide range of other organizations have consistently stated that the main cause of civilian death in Syria since 2011 has been the Assad regime.

While this event is claiming to "debunk fake news," it is aimed at undermining international pressure on the Assad regime to account for the war crimes it has verifiably committed. Free speech comes with responsibilities - as we would denounce Holocaust denial, we denounce the denial of Assad's thoroughly documented war crimes.

Sign this petition to tell United Steelworkers that it should not allow this event to be held in the Steelworkers Hall, and should not contribute to the denial of some of the worst war crimes of our time.
